He spearheaded the company's focus on denim and expanded its offerings to include women's clothing in the 1970s, broadening its appeal and driving growth. He stepped down as CEO in 1991, a year before the company went public. As of March 2025, he owned a substantial 31.7% stake in the company.

He was involved in all aspects of Buckle's business, including developing management information systems.
