Early Life
Leslie Lee Alexander was born on June 30, 1943, in New York City, to a Jewish family. He graduated from New York University in 1965 with a bachelor's degree in economics. After his father's death, he dropped out of Brooklyn Law School to support his mother. He later earned a Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
Rise to Success
Alexander began his career trading options and bonds. In 1980, he founded The Alexander Group, his own investment company. His significant wealth came from owning the Houston Rockets, which he bought in 1993 for $85 million. Under his ownership, the Rockets won back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. He sold the team in 2017 for $2.2 billion.
