Early Life
Jerral Wayne Jones Sr. was born on October 13, 1942, in Los Angeles, California, and later moved to North Little Rock, Arkansas. His parents owned a grocery store. Jones attended the University of Arkansas, where he co-captained the 1964 national championship football team as an offensive lineman. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Arts degree from the university. He later received an MBA in 1970.
Rise to Success
After graduating, Jones ventured into business, initially exploring the restaurant industry before focusing on oil and gas exploration. He founded Jones Oil and Land Lease, experiencing significant success by striking oil in many of his early wells. Jones then made a pivotal move, purchasing the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million. He replaced head coach Tom Landry and took over the general manager role, implementing strategies that would transform the team. Under Jones' ownership, the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in the 1990s and became a global brand. In addition to team success, Jones was the first to secure sponsorship deals for the team.

Jones, along with his wife, Eugenia, has been involved in philanthropy through the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation, which partners with The Salvation Army. In 2010, the Jones family granted $1 million to the North Texas Youth Education Town. Additionally, they were the lead donors for the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge associated with the American Cancer Society.
