Early Life
Kjell Inge Røkke was born on October 25, 1958, in Molde, Norway. He started his career as a fisherman at the age of 18. He moved to the United States in 1979 and launched his business career with the purchases of a 69-foot trawler in Seattle.
Rise to Success
Røkke built a leading worldwide fishing enterprise and, in 1996, became the largest shareholder of Aker ASA, merging his company with Aker. He later became the chairman of Aker ASA, gaining a significant position in the fisheries sector and acquiring the well-established fishery business J.M. Johansen.

Røkke’s wealth surged when he acquired enough shares in Aker ASA to become its largest shareholder in 1996, later merging his company with Aker ASA. Røkke's industrial holdings include Aker BP, Aker Solutions, Akastor, Kværner, Ocean Yield, Aker Energy, Cognite, and Aker BioMarine, with interests in oil and gas, maritime assets, and marine biotechnology. Philanthropy
Røkke is actively involved in philanthropy, committing to donate a substantial portion of his wealth to charitable causes. He joined The Giving Pledge in 2017 and founded the REV Ocean initiative, which focuses on ocean research and conservation, including the REV Ocean research vessel. He also established the Aker Scholarship to support Norwegian students' graduate studies internationally.
