Early Life
Gustav Magnar Witzoe was born in Frøya, Norway, on February 8, 1993. His father, Gustav Witzoe, founded the salmon farming company SalMar in 1991, which would become one of the world's largest producers of farmed salmon. At the age of 18, Gustav Magnar Witzoe was made the main shareholder of SalMar, a move by his father, primarily for inheritance tax reasons.
Rise to Success
Witzøe's wealth is primarily tied to SalMar ASA, where he owns nearly half the company. SalMar has been at the forefront of industrializing fish farming in Norway, growing to become one of the country's largest industries. The company is fully integrated, with its own hatcheries, sea farms, harvesting plant and sales force. His involvement with the family business started early, including working as a milker at SalMar's fish farms. Besides his significant role in SalMar, Witzoe has also invested in technology startups and real estate.
Key Business Strategies
The success of SalMar, and consequently, Gustav Magnar Witzoe's wealth, is rooted in the company's strategic approach to fish farming. SalMar has focused on sustainable aquaculture in Norway, Iceland and Scotland, delivering healthy and tasty food to more than 50 countries. The company’s main activities include marine-phase farming, broodfish and smolt production, processing and sale of farmed salmon. SalMar has also expanded its operations to include a comprehensive VAP (Value Added Processing) activity.
Philanthropy
While specific philanthropic amounts are not readily available, the Witzøe family is known to be involved in charitable work, focusing on sustainability, supporting local communities, and providing children with education and better upbringings.
