Early Life
Ole Andreas Halvorsen was born in Borge, Norway, in 1961. Before entering the world of finance, Halvorsen served as an officer in the Royal Norwegian Navy's SEAL team. This early experience instilled in him the discipline and strategic thinking that would later define his investment approach.

Halvorsen's career in finance began after earning a degree in Economics from Williams College and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He honed his skills in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley and at Tiger Management Corporation under the guidance of Julian Robertson, where he became known as a "Tiger Cub." In 1999, Halvorsen, along with David C. Ott and Brian T. Olson, co-founded Viking Global Investors. The firm quickly became a major player in the hedge fund industry, known for its long/short equity strategy and research-intensive approach.
Key Business Strategies
Viking Global Investors' success is built on a foundation of fundamental analysis, deep sector expertise, and a long-term investment horizon. Halvorsen and his team employ a long/short equity strategy, seeking to profit from both rising and falling markets. They focus on identifying undervalued companies and shorting overvalued ones. Adaptability, a willingness to evolve strategies, and a blend of quantitative and qualitative insights have also been key to Viking's ability to stay ahead of market trends. Diversification is another core tenet, balancing public and private investments to mitigate risk.
Philanthropy
Andreas Halvorsen is actively involved in philanthropy, with a focus on education. He serves on the boards of Williams College and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. His commitment to education reflects a dedication to shaping future generations of leaders.
