Early Life
Julia Thiele-Schuerhoff inherited her wealth from her father, Heinz Hermann Thiele. Her father joined Knorr-Bremse's legal department in the late 1960s and took over control in the mid-1980s. He was named honorary chairman in 2016, and took the company public in 2018. When he died in February 2021, Heinz Hermann also owned 50% of railroad equipment maker Vossloh and 12.4% of German airline Lufthansa. Julia serves on the supervisory board of Knorr-Bremse and runs the affiliated charity organization, Knorr-Bremse Global Care.
Rise to Success
After the death of her father, Julia Thiele-Schuerhoff inherited a portion of the wealth, including a significant stake in Knorr-Bremse AG, a leading manufacturer of braking systems for rail and commercial vehicles. Her father's strategic leadership and vision were instrumental in the company's growth. Julia has since taken on an active role in the family's business. She serves on the supervisory board of Knorr-Bremse and is a key figure in the stewardship of the company.
Key Business Strategies
The primary source of the family's wealth is the stake in Knorr-Bremse AG. The company's success is attributed to its leadership in braking systems and other systems for rail and commercial vehicles. The company operates in two segments: Rail Vehicle Systems and Commercial Vehicle Systems. The company's focus on innovation, quality, and reliability has helped maintain its position as a global market leader. In 2025, Knorr-Bremse will be celebrating its 120th anniversary.
Philanthropy
Julia Thiele-Schuerhoff is involved in philanthropic efforts through Knorr-Bremse Global Care, the company's affiliated charity organization. Founded in 2005, the organization focuses on education, emergency relief, and water, sanitation and hygiene. The initiative was spearheaded by Heinz Hermann Thiele and his daughter, Julia Thiele-Schürhoff.
