Early Life
Laurence Graff was born in Stepney, London, in 1938, into a Jewish family. His mother encouraged him to learn a trade, leading him to begin an apprenticeship in a jewelry manufacturing workshop at age 14.
Rise to Success
Graff's career began with repairing rings and creating small jewelry pieces. He founded Graff Diamonds in 1960 at the age of 22. By 1962, he had already opened two jewelry shops in London. His vision involved creating adventurous jewelry and specializing in selling to affluent buyers, especially from the Middle East. Graff has built a global brand, with over 60 stores worldwide, handling some of the most important diamonds and building a clientele that includes celebrities, royalty, and other high-net-worth individuals.
Key Business Strategies
Graff's business acumen is reflected in his vertically integrated business model, controlling all stages from sourcing rough diamonds to retail. His focus on acquiring exceptional gems and craftsmanship, combined with his expansion into international markets, contributed to his success.
Philanthropy
Laurence Graff founded the FACET Foundation in 2008 to support underprivileged youth in Southern Africa through education and skills training. The foundation supports programs in Lesotho, Botswana, and South Africa, contributing to the communities' well-being.
