Early Life and Education
John A. Pritzker was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1953. He is the son of Jay Pritzker, the founder of Hyatt Hotels, and Marian "Cindy" (née Friend) Pritzker. Pritzker graduated with a B.A. from Menlo College and also attended the University of Denver.
Rise to Success
Pritzker began his career in 1972 working in the family business, Hyatt Hotels. He rose through the ranks and became Managing Director and Divisional Vice President in 1984. In 1988, he left Hyatt to pursue his own business ventures, including Ticketmaster. In 1996, he formed Mandara Spa, a chain of resort spas. Pritzker founded Geolo Capital, a private equity firm in 2005. Geolo Capital focuses on investments in hospitality, entertainment, and health & wellness companies.
