Early Life
Jeffrey Terry Green was born on March 15, 1977. He grew up primarily in Salt Lake City, Utah, with periods in other states due to his family's frequent moves. Green's upbringing included financial challenges, which influenced his perspective on life and motivated him to achieve financial success. His grandfather, a mechanic, instilled in him the values of hard work and integrity.
Rise to Success
Green began his career as a technical account manager for MSN. In 2003, he founded AdECN, an online advertising exchange. AdECN was acquired by Microsoft in 2007, where Green served as COO of the AdECN Exchange. After two years at Microsoft, Green co-founded The Trade Desk in 2009. Under Green's leadership, The Trade Desk went public in 2016 and has since become the largest independent demand-side platform (DSP) in the world.
Key Business Strategies
The Trade Desk focuses on data-driven advertising, allowing advertisers to buy digital advertising campaigns across various platforms. The company's technology emphasizes transparency and control in digital advertising purchases. Green has focused on building an open internet, creating a fragmented market outside of major companies. The Trade Desk has achieved significant financial success, reporting $2.4 billion in revenue in 2024. The company continues to innovate, launching new products and forming partnerships to expand its reach.
Philanthropy
In November 2021, Jeff Green signed The Giving Pledge, committing to donate the majority of his wealth to philanthropic causes. Green's family foundation, Dataphilanthropy (now the Jeff T. Green Family Foundation), focuses on data-driven philanthropy. The foundation supports education policy and has made contributions to organizations focused on LGBTQ+ advocacy. Green has also donated to programs supporting cancer patients and established a scholarship program at California State University Channel Islands.
