Early Life
Alexander Lutsenko was born in East Berlin in 1962. He embarked on a military career in the early 1980s after studying Soviet army propaganda. However, he left the service after the fall of the Soviet Union to become an entrepreneur.
Rise to Success
In 1994, Lutsenko founded a trading company that sold fish food and additives to suppliers of pork and poultry feed. This business grew rapidly, expanding to 42 warehouses throughout the Commonwealth of Independent States within three years. By 1998, annual profits reached $150 million.
Lutsenko's strategic focus on agribusiness led to the founding of Sodrugestvo Group. The company, based in Luxembourg, became a leading soybean food producer in Russia, processing soybeans and oilseed, manufacturing fishmeal and composite animal protein mix, and importing corn gluten and lysine. Sodrugestvo expanded during economic crises, investing in new factories, sea terminals, and railroads. In 2023, the company underwent restructuring, with Lutsenko and his wife retaining control of Russian and Belarusian enterprises, and selling international assets to top managers.
Key Business Strategies
Lutsenko's business strategy involved expanding during economic downturns and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. He also prioritized operational focus by hiring former army officers as executives.
