William Fung Kwok Lun was born in Hong Kong on February 21, 1949. He is the grandson of Fung Pak-liu, who co-founded Li & Fung, and the son of Fung Hon-chu. He has a younger brother, Victor Fung, who is the chairman of the Fung Group. Fung attended Princeton University, graduating in 1970 with a degree in electrical engineering.
