Wang Jianlin was born in Cangxi County, Guangyuan, Sichuan, China, on October 24, 1954. His father was a soldier in Mao Zedong's People's Liberation Army. At the age of 15, Wang enlisted in the People's Liberation Army and served for 16 years. He quickly rose through the ranks and served in the military until 1986.
Rise to Success
After leaving the military, Wang transitioned into the business world. In 1988, he took over a debt-ridden real estate project in Dalian. He renamed the company Dalian Wanda Group and became its general manager in 1992. Under his leadership, the company grew rapidly. Wanda expanded into commercial real estate and developed numerous Wanda Plazas, hotels, and department stores across China. Wang's strategic vision led the company to acquire AMC Theatres in 2012, making Wanda the world's largest cinema operator. In 2015, Wang was named the richest man in China.
