Early Life
Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière was born on November 6, 1940, in Nice, France. He comes from an old family of the French nobility. He attended the École Nationale d'Administration from 1968 to 1970.
Rise to Success
Lacharrière's career began in 1961 when he launched a teen magazine. He later worked for several companies, including Suez, Masson, and L'Oréal, where he served as executive vice president of finance. He founded Fimalac in 1991, and the company was listed on the stock exchange on June 24, 1996, with a market capitalization of EUR 352 million. Fimalac was delisted on July 17, 2017, with a final valuation of EUR 3.236 billion, and Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière now owns 100% of the group. He also served as the Chairman of Duff & Phelps. He is currently the CEO of Fimalac, an investment group primarily focused on digital media and real estate. He is also a board member at L'Oréal and Renault.
Key Business Strategies
The initial strategy of Fimalac was to create an independent group focused on long-term industrial operations. The goal was to build a group of market-leading companies in France that could also expand into Europe and become global leaders in new sectors resulting from globalization. In 2017, Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière acquired all shares of Fimalac, taking the company private. Fimalac has also invested in the Groupe Lucien Barrière, and in 2024, finalized an investment in Casino, a French hypermarket group, as part of a consortium that secured a majority stake.
Philanthropy
Lacharrière is involved in various philanthropic endeavors. He presides over the Fondation Culture et Diversité, which he founded in 2006. He also serves on the Board of the American Friends of the Louvre and helped renovate the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris. In August 2010, he was named a Goodwill Ambassador for UNESCO.
