Early Life and Education
Keith Dunleavy, born in 1970, faced financial challenges early in his academic journey. To fund his education, he turned to programming, which he used to support himself throughout college. He studied biology and engineering at Dartmouth College, graduating with honors. Dunleavy then earned a doctorate in medicine from Harvard Medical School and completed his medical residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Rise to Success
Dunleavy founded Inovalon in 1998 during his medical residency. His vision was to leverage data and analytics to improve healthcare outcomes. Starting in a spare room in his townhouse, he built Inovalon into a leading healthcare data and analytics company. He served as CEO for 26 years. In 2015, the company went public on NASDAQ. In 2021, Inovalon was acquired by a consortium of private equity firms.
Key Business Strategies
Key strategies included the use of advanced, cloud-based platforms to improve clinical outcomes and economics for more than 20,000 health plans, hospitals, and other healthcare stakeholders. The company also focused on real-time connectivity and analytics to provide insights. Dunleavy also oversaw over ten acquisitions and divestitures.
Philanthropy
Dunleavy serves as a Director of the Dunleavy Foundation, a private foundation focused on investing in organizations, people, and ideas that promote a sense of purpose, self-reliance, impactful leadership, and a lasting benefit to society. He is also the Chairperson of the Board of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Foundation.
