Viktor Filippovich Rashnikov was born on October 13, 1948, in Magnitogorsk, USSR (now Russia). He grew up in a steel-centric community where the economy revolved around metallurgical production.
Rise to Success
Rashnikov's career began in 1967 as a fitter in the repair shop at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK). He steadily advanced through various positions, including Head of Production and Products Supply. In 1991, he became Chief Engineer and First Deputy General Director. In 1997, Rashnikov became the General Director of MMK and in 2005, he became the Chairman of the Board.
Key Business Strategies
Under Rashnikov's leadership, MMK invested heavily in modernization, transforming it from a post-Soviet facility into a leading steel producer. Key strategies included restructuring to boost output and reduce costs, leveraging privatization gains to fund upgrades. He oversaw the construction of specialized mills to produce steel plates for various sectors, including oil and gas, shipbuilding, and construction.
Philanthropy
Rashnikov is actively involved in philanthropy, annually allocating about $25 million to social and charitable causes through his Metallurg Charity Fund. These initiatives include providing healthcare for pensioners, supporting large families, and assisting victims of disasters. He also helped fund the Holy Ascension Cathedral in Magnitogorsk.
