Sri Prakash Lohia was born in Kolkata, India, on August 11, 1952. He received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Delhi in 1971. In 1973, he moved to Indonesia with his father, Mohan Lal Lohia, to pursue business opportunities in the textile industry.

In Indonesia, Lohia co-founded Indorama Synthetics in 1975, manufacturing spun yarns. Under his leadership, the company diversified into the production of polyester fibers and PET resins. Lohia's strategic foresight led to Indorama becoming a major player in the global polyester market. In 2006, Lohia acquired an integrated olefin plant in Nigeria, expanding Indorama's reach into Africa's petrochemical sector.
