Early Life
Richard Tsai was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1957. He is the son of Tsai Wan-tsai, the founder of Fubon Financial Holding Co. He received a Bachelor of Arts from National Taiwan University in 1979 and an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business in 1981. He also has a Bachelor of Laws degree from National Taiwan University in 1979.

Tsai joined the family business, Fubon Financial Holding Co., in 1983. He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming president in 2005. Under his leadership, Fubon has become a powerhouse in the financial sector, with interests in banking, insurance, and securities. He co-runs the company with his brother, Daniel Tsai.
