Early Life
Bruce C.H. Cheng was born in 1936 in China's Fujian province. Due to the aftermath of the war, he emigrated to Taiwan with his family. He later studied electrical engineering at National Cheng Kung University. His early career involved work as a technician at Air Asia and engineering roles at TRW, where he learned American manufacturing standards.
Rise to Success
In 1971, Cheng founded Delta Electronics in Taipei. Initially, the company manufactured television components. Cheng recognized the growing demand for efficient power solutions. In 1983, Delta started producing switching power supplies, a pivotal shift that drove the company's growth. In 1988, Delta went public on the Taiwan Stock Exchange, gaining the financial strength needed for global expansion. By the 1990s, Delta diversified into brushless fans and thermal management components, achieving over $1 billion in annual revenue. Cheng stepped down as Chairman in 2012, his son Ping Cheng rose to CEO in 2012, and later became chairman in 2024.

Cheng focused on providing innovative, clean, and energy-efficient solutions. Delta invested significantly in research and development, allocating 5-6% of its global revenue, which is higher than many competitors. Under his leadership, Delta has embraced environmental protection and sustainability.
Philanthropy
Bruce Cheng established the Delta Electronics Foundation in 1990 to support activities related to environmental protection, energy conservation, green building, and talent development.
