Early Life
Pedro Grendene Bartelle was born on January 23, 1950, in Farroupilha, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He is the twin brother of Alexandre Grendene Bartelle. Growing up, Bartelle was inspired by his grandfather, a successful businessman who helped him and his brother start their own venture.
Rise to Success
In 1971, Pedro and his twin brother Alexandre co-founded Grendene, a company that would become one of the world's largest sandal manufacturers. The brothers started the company with capital borrowed from their grandfather, using it to purchase plastic injection molding machines and hire employees. Grendene initially produced plastic basketwork holders for wine bottles before transitioning to footwear. The company launched the Melissa brand in 1979, which became a fashion symbol.

Bartelle is recognized for his innovative business strategies. The company has expanded its operations globally and diversified its product line. Key milestones include the introduction of the Rider sandal line for men in 1986 and the expansion of the children's line. Grendene has also focused on building strong partnerships, including collaborations with top designers for the Melissa brand.
Philanthropy
In 2015, Alexandre Bartelle, Pedro's twin brother, donated funds for the construction of a veterinary hospital in Porto Alegre. Pedro is also involved in Nelore Grendene, one of the largest producers of Nelore breed bulls in the country.
