Pedro Grendene Bartelle was born on January 23, 1950, in Farroupilha, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. He co-founded Grendene with his twin brother Alexandre Grendene Bartelle in 1971.
Rise to Success
Grendene started by creating plastic basket holders for wine. In 1979, inspired by fisherman's sandals, the company produced its first sandal, the Melissa Aranha. Grendene expanded, creating brands like Grendha in 1994 and Melissa in 1996.
