Early Life and Education
Madhukar Balvantray Parekh was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, in 1946. He comes from a Gujarati Baniya family. His father, Balvant Parekh, founded Pidilite Industries in 1959. Madhukar excelled academically, securing a rank of 4 in the IIT JEE examination. He earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the University Department of Chemical Technology of University of Mumbai and later completed a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin, USA, in 1969.
Rise to Success
After his master's degree, Parekh joined Abbott Laboratories in the US. In 1972, he returned to India and joined his family's business, Pidilite Industries. At the time, Pidilite was a small company. Under his leadership, Pidilite transformed from a B2B industrial products company into a consumer-oriented company. Parekh focused on research and development, professionalizing management, and branding efforts. He spearheaded the expansion of the domestic market and initiated global scale-up through acquisitions.
