Liang Wengen was born in 1956 in Maotang, Hunan province, China, into a family of peasants. From a young age, he displayed determination and a strong work ethic. He graduated from Central South University with a bachelor's degree.

Before entering the construction equipment industry, Liang worked at a state arms plant. In 1989, he co-founded Sany Group, initially a small welding materials factory. Under his leadership, Sany Group grew into a global leader in construction machinery, manufacturing excavators, cranes, and concrete mixers. In 2011, he became the richest man in mainland China, with a net worth of approximately $8 billion.
