Early Life
Kwee Liong Keng was born in 1945 in Jakarta, Indonesia, to Henry Kwee Hian Liong, a textile trader and real estate developer. In 1958, the family emigrated to Singapore, where they would lay the foundation for their future business empire.
Rise to Success
Kwee Liong Keng's father, Henry Kwee, founded Kwee Inc. Pte Ltd in 1959 and Pontiac Land Group (PLG) in 1961. Kwee Liong Keng, along with his brothers, Kwee Liong Tek, Kwee Liong Seen, and Kwee Liong Phing, took over the reins of Pontiac Land Group. Under their leadership, PLG became a major player in Singapore's real estate market. The group's portfolio includes luxury hotels such as the Regent Singapore, Ritz-Carlton Millenia, and Conrad Centennial Singapore, as well as office blocks and malls.
Key Business Strategies
Pontiac Land Group's success is attributed to its focus on luxury real estate and strategic investments. The Kwee brothers expanded their reach beyond Singapore, with projects in New York, Sydney, and the Maldives. A significant move was the acquisition of the Capella Hotel group in 2017. The group has also been recognized for its high-quality developments and focus on iconic properties, such as their development of the Fari Islands archipelago in the Maldives.
Philanthropy
The Kwee family has a history of supporting various charitable and educational causes, primarily focusing on education, arts, culture, and social and humanitarian causes. Kwee Liong Keng is also a member of the board of trustees of Viva Foundation and the Singapore Institute of Technology.
