Koos Bekker was born in Potchefstroom, South Africa, on December 14, 1952. He attended Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg and later pursued higher education, earning degrees in law and literature from Stellenbosch University, and a law degree from Wits University. After gaining experience in advertising, Bekker co-founded M-Net, one of the first pay-television services outside the United States. He later became a founding director of the mobile communication company MTN. In 1997, Bekker took the helm as CEO of Naspers.
