Early Life
Joseph Steven Lacob was born on January 10, 1956, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He grew up in a Jewish family and later relocated to Anaheim, California. As a youth, Lacob sold peanuts at the Anaheim Stadium to support his college tuition. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Irvine, a Master's in Public Health (Epidemiology) from UCLA, and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Rise to Success
Lacob began his professional career in healthcare and biotechnology. He worked at Cetus Corporation and FHP International before joining Booz, Allen & Hamilton. In 1987, he became a partner at Kleiner Perkins, a venture capital firm, where he invested in life sciences and medical technology. Lacob's move into sports ownership began with an investment in the American Basketball League. He later became a minority owner of the Boston Celtics before purchasing the Golden State Warriors in 2010.

As owner of the Golden State Warriors, Lacob implemented several key strategies. He focused on innovation, building a strong front office, and investing in a data-driven approach to player development and team strategy. Lacob's willingness to spend on top talent, along with the construction of the Chase Center, has significantly increased the Warriors' value.
