Early Life
Jayme Brasil Garfinkel was born in Brazil to a Jewish family. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo in 1970 and completed graduate studies in Business Administration at Getúlio Vargas College in 1975.
Rise to Success
Garfinkel began his career at Porto Seguro in 1972 as an Assistant Executive Officer. He quickly ascended through the ranks, becoming the Executive Officer Vice President in 1978. He took a prominent position in the family business after his father passed away in 1978, six years after he had acquired Porto Seguro. Garfinkel served as CEO until 2012 and is currently Chairman of the Board of Porto Seguro, and the company has become one of the leading auto insurers in Brazil. Porto Seguro went public in 2004.

Under Garfinkel's leadership, Porto Seguro has become a major player in the Brazilian insurance market. His strategies have focused on growth and diversification, with subsidiaries including Porto Seguro Vida, Azul Seguros, and Porto Seguro Saúde.
Philanthropy
Jayme Garfinkel has supported the creation and maintenance of schools in favelas or shantytowns around Sao Paulo with more than 50,000 children through Porto Seguro. Garfinkel has been described as an agnostic. He is married and has two children.
