Early Life

Jayme Brasil Garfinkel was born on November 30, 1945, into a Jewish family in Brazil. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo in 1970 and completed graduate studies in Business Administration at Getúlio Vargas College in 1975.

Rise to Success

Garfinkel's career in the insurance industry began in 1972 when his family acquired Porto Seguro. He joined the company as an Assistant Executive Officer. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Executive Officer Vice President in 1978. After his father's death, Garfinkel took over the company, leading Porto Seguro to become Brazil's leading auto insurer. He served as CEO until 2012 and is currently the Chairman of the Board. Under his guidance, Porto Seguro expanded, with subsidiaries like Azul Seguros, Porto Seguro Saúde, and Porto Seguro Vida. The company went public in 2004.
