Harsh Vardhan Goenka was born on December 23, 1957, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He is the son of Sushila Devi Goenka and R. P. Goenka, the founder of RPG Enterprises. Goenka completed his undergraduate studies in Economics at St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Rise to Success
After completing his education, Harsh Goenka began his professional career in Mumbai. In 1983, at the age of 24, he became the Managing Director of CEAT Ltd. He succeeded his father, R. P. Goenka, as the Chairman of RPG Enterprises in 1988. Under his leadership, the group expanded through mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures. RPG Enterprises established collaborations with several multinational corporations.

Harsh Goenka has been instrumental in transforming RPG Enterprises into a diversified conglomerate. The group has expanded into sectors like power transmission, railways, civil construction, IT, tires, pharmaceuticals, plantations, and hospitality. He led a series of mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and partnerships for the group during the 1980s and 1990s.
