Falguni Nayar was born in Mumbai, India, on February 19, 1963, into a Gujarati business family. Her father was a businessman who ran a small bearings company. Career
Nayar began her career at A. F. Ferguson & Co. before joining the Kotak Mahindra Group in 1993. She worked at Kotak Mahindra for 19 years, where she headed the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) team and opened institutional equities offices in London and New York City. In 2005, she became the managing director of Kotak Mahindra Capital, the investment banking unit, and director of Kotak Securities. She left Kotak Mahindra in 2012.
