Early Life
Derek Stevens was born on September 17, 1967, in Detroit, Michigan. His father was an architect, and his mother was a high school teacher. Stevens attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1990, and later earned an MBA from Wayne State University. He started his career at the family-owned Cold Heading Company, an automotive parts manufacturer, where he served as CEO.
Rise to Success
Stevens's journey into the casino industry began in the mid-2000s. Recognizing the potential for revitalization in downtown Las Vegas, he, along with his brother Greg, began acquiring and redeveloping properties. In 2008, they purchased the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino. They then acquired and rebranded Fitzgerald's as The D Las Vegas in 2011. A landmark achievement was the construction and opening of Circa Resort & Casino in 2020, the first ground-up hotel-casino built in downtown Las Vegas in over four decades.
