Early Life
Chua Thian Poh was born on July 11, 1948, in Singapore. He came from a large family of 14 children. After completing his studies at Serangoon Garden Technical Secondary School, Chua entered the workforce. At 16 years old, he joined his father's production company which made metal hooks and spikes for the logging industry. During the 1970s, he ran an import/export business from Jakarta, Indonesia after his father's company shuttered due to falling timber prices. He stayed in Indonesia for over a decade before returning to Singapore.
Rise to Success
Chua Thian Poh is the founder and CEO of Ho Bee Land, a real estate development company. Chua started Ho Bee Land in 1987, initially gaining prominence for developing luxury condominiums on Singapore's Sentosa resort island. Ho Bee Land has grown to have a portfolio comprising 35 developments across four countries, including nine prime office properties. The company has expanded its asset portfolio to include properties in cities such as London and Munich. In 2022, Ho Bee acquired the Scalpel office tower in London's financial district for $961 million.

The company has expanded its portfolio to include developments in Australia, China, the UK, and Europe, mitigating risk by not relying on a single market. Philanthropy
Chua Thian Poh is a known philanthropist. In 2015, Chua Thian Poh and his brothers established The Chua Foundation in honour of their late matriarch, Madam Seah Sar. The Chua Foundation supports underfunded causes and empowers charity organizations, particularly in the area of special needs, elderly care, and medical assistive devices. Chua has contributed generously to Singapore's higher education causes, donating over $20 million since 2007. He also donated $5 million to the National University of Singapore (NUS) to establish the Chua Thian Poh Community Leadership Centre.
