Early Life
Azim Hashim Premji was born on July 24, 1945, in Mumbai, India. His father, Muhammad Hashim Premji, was a well-known businessman, often referred to as the "Rice King of Burma." Azim was pursuing an engineering degree at Stanford University when his father passed away in 1966. He returned to India at the age of 21 to take charge of the family business, Western Indian Vegetable Products Ltd.
Rise to Success
Premji transformed the company, initially focused on vegetable oil, into a diversified enterprise and eventually a global IT powerhouse. He led Wipro through significant shifts, venturing into the IT industry in the 1980s and recognizing the potential of software services. Under his leadership, Wipro became one of India's leading IT companies. He retired as the Executive Chairman of Wipro Limited in July 2019, but remains a non-executive member of the board and founder chairman.

His total contribution to the foundation is valued at $21 billion, making him one of the top Indian philanthropists.
