Early Life
Athanasios Martinos was born in Athens in February 1950. He began his career in the family-owned shipping business, Thenamaris Ships Management, in 1971. He furthered his education with studies in Shipping in London and Economics at the University of Athens, completing them in 1974. By 1975, Thenamaris controlled a fleet of 36 vessels.
Rise to Success
In 1990, Athanasios Martinos founded Eastern Mediterranean Maritime (EastMed). He is the Managing Director and main shareholder. Under his leadership, EastMed has grown into a significant player in the shipping industry, operating a substantial fleet of tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels. He also owns a Cyprus-based real estate investment firm with holdings in London and Geneva.
