Athanasios Martinos, born in Athens in 1950, is a Greek shipping magnate. His wealth stems from his ownership of Eastern Mediterranean Maritime Limited (Eastmed), a company with a fleet of approximately 77 vessels, including tankers, bulk carriers, and container ships. Martinos also invests in Greek real estate. He founded Eastmed in 1991, after previously working in the family-owned shipping firm Thenamaris. Martinos has been recognized for his philanthropy, including significant contributions to healthcare, education, and the Church through the Athanasios and Marina Martinos Foundation. He has also served as civil administrator of the monastic community of Mount Athos from 2019 to 2023.
