Early Life
Arun Bharat Ram was born on November 15, 1940, in Delhi, India. He is a third-generation entrepreneur from the illustrious Shriram family. After completing his schooling at The Doon School in Dehradun, he pursued Industrial Engineering at the University of Michigan, USA, and also attended the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany.
Rise to Success
Ram began his career in 1967 with the Delhi Cloth & General Mills Co. Ltd. (now DCM Ltd.), the flagship company of his family. In 1970, he founded SRF Ltd., initially as a manufacturer of nylon tire cords. Under his leadership, SRF expanded its product range to include engineering plastics, industrial fabrics, refrigerant gases, and packaging films. Ram is credited with transforming SRF into a world-class conglomerate.
Key Business Strategies
A key strategy employed by Arun Bharat Ram was his focus on quality. He spearheaded the adoption of Total Quality Management (TQM) within SRF, leading the company's tyre cord business to win the Deming Application Prize in 2004. He was among the first industrialists to foresee economic reforms in India and created world-class organizations within the country. SRF currently operates 11 manufacturing plants in India, with additional plants in Thailand and South Africa.
Philanthropy
Arun Bharat Ram has a strong commitment to social responsibility. He serves as the Chairman of the SRF Foundation, which focuses on education, vocational training, and community development. He is also Chairman of the Lady Shri Ram College for Women in Delhi and The Shri Ram Schools in Delhi and Gurgaon.
