Antonio Percassi was born on June 9, 1953, in Clusone, Italy, as the youngest of six children. He came from a modest family background, with his father working as a building contractor. This environment instilled in him a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit from a young age.

Percassi began his career in professional football at age 17, playing for Atalanta. After a brief but notable football career, he transitioned into the business world, entering the retail sector. He started managing stores for the Benetton fashion brand, which led to a long-term collaboration. Percassi founded the Percassi Group in 1977 and later founded Kiko Milano in 1997, a cosmetics brand that experienced rapid international expansion. Additionally, he spearheaded bringing brands like Zara and Starbucks to Italy, which increased his profile.
