Early Life and Education
Andrei Natanovich Rappoport was born on June 22, 1963, in Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian SSR. His family later moved to Severodonetsk, Luhansk Region. He graduated from Donetsk State University in 1989 with a degree in National Economic Planning. During his studies, he completed an internship at Santa Clara University in Silicon Valley, which introduced him to the U.S. academic system and business environment. He also earned a Candidate of Sciences degree from the Institute of Sociology of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1997.
Rise to Success
Rappoport's professional journey began in the late 1980s in Ukraine. After graduating from university, he joined the family business, EKOU-Consult. His career then progressed in Russia, where he became a founder of Alfa-Bank and held executive positions at Yukos-Rosprom and RAO UES. He later transitioned to the energy sector and served as the Chairman of the Management Board of FGC UES, attracting significant investments. In 2015, he relocated to Switzerland to focus on global investments.
Key Business Strategies
Rappoport has invested in more than 100 private equity and venture capital funds, with a focus on FinTech, telecommunications, and real estate development. He was an early investor in companies like Datadog and Delivery Hero. Rappoport’s strategy involved identifying high-growth potential companies, mainly in the U.S. and European markets, and providing them with capital and expertise to scale.
Philanthropy
Andrei Rappoport, with his wife Irina, established the FAIR Charitable Foundation of Andrey and Irina Rappoport. The foundation supports educational, scientific, cultural, and humanitarian initiatives in Switzerland, Israel, Italy, Portugal, and Europe. Rappoport also served as president of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo.
