Early Life
Anatoly Georgievich Skurov was born on December 7, 1952, in the Tula Oblast, USSR. He graduated from the Tula Polytechnic Institute in 1975 with a degree in engineering. His early career was in the Kopeisk Engineering Plant, a major manufacturer of mining equipment, where he rose to Chief Technical Designer.
Rise to Success
Skurov's rise in the business world began in 1995 when he co-founded the private coal mining company Sibuglemet. He served as its General Director until 2003 and then became the president of Sibuglemet Holding Company. Forbes recognized his business acumen and listed him as one of Russia's wealthiest businessmen. In 2011, he acquired an equity stake in Uralkali, a Russian potash producer. Skurov sold his shares in both Sibuglemet Holding and Uralkali in 2013.
