Early Life
Alain Bouchard was born in Chicoutimi, Quebec, in 1949, into a devout Catholic family. His father, an excavation company owner, faced bankruptcy, which led the family to relocate to a mobile home. This experience instilled in Bouchard a strong work ethic, a value he learned from his father. At a young age, Bouchard worked as a stock boy at his brother's store.
Rise to Success
Bouchard's entrepreneurial journey began in 1980 when he opened his first convenience store in Quebec. Along with co-founders Jacques D'Amours, Richard Fortin, and Réal Plourde, he founded Alimentation Couche-Tard. Serving as CEO from 1980 to 2014, Bouchard led the company's expansion, growing it to over 12,500 stores worldwide. The company's name, 'Couche-Tard,' reflects the extended operating hours of its stores, translating to 'late sleeper' in French.

Bouchard focused on a strategic acquisition model, transforming underperforming assets into a streamlined network. The Alimentation Couche-Tard's history is a testament to strategic expansion and a commitment to convenience. His company's primary brands include Couche-Tard, Circle K, and Ingo, offering a diverse range of products from fuel and merchandise to various food service items. This growth is a testament to its strategic acquisitions and unwavering commitment to customer service.
