Ahmet Çalık was born on March 1, 1958, in Malatya, Turkey. He hails from a family involved in the textile business since the 1930s. From a young age, he showed an interest in business and entrepreneurship, a path he would follow throughout his career.

Çalık began his professional career in 1981 with the establishment of Ortadogu Tekstil, marking the start of his journey. His vision led to the creation of Çalık Denim in Malatya, representing his initial significant investment in Eastern Anatolia. In 1997, he consolidated various group companies under the umbrella of Çalık Holding. Over time, Çalık Holding has expanded its presence across 34 countries, with significant operations in energy, construction, mining, finance, and textiles. The group's operations expanded significantly in the 2000s, and it has since acquired companies such as Banka Kombëtare Tregtare and ALBtelecom.
