Adi Burjorji Godrej was born on April 3, 1942, in Mumbai, India, into a well-known business family. His father, Burjorji Godrej, belonged to the Parsi community, known for producing successful entrepreneurs. Adi showed early business acumen and pursued higher education in the United States. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, which shaped his approach to management and strategy.
Rise to Success
After his education, Adi Godrej joined the family business in the 1960s, during the License Raj era. He modernized the Godrej Group, implementing modern corporate practices and emphasizing innovation and sustainability. He spearheaded diversification beyond the original business, transforming the Godrej Group into a diversified conglomerate with a global presence. In 2021, he stepped down as Chairman of Godrej Industries, but remained Chairman of the Godrej Group and Chairman Emeritus of GIL.
