Early Life
Zhou Yahui was born in February 1977, in Lijiang, Yunnan, China. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in optical engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Rise to Success
Zhou's career began in 1999 when he started a website called Vulcan Net. In 2008, he founded Kunlun Tech Co Ltd (formerly Beijing Kunlun Tech Co Ltd), a prominent web game developer. He served as its chairman and CEO until 2020. In 2015, Kunlun Wanwei successfully went public on the ChiNext board of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Kunlun Tech focuses on distributing and selling video games in China through their GameArk application. Zhou has demonstrated significant business acumen, including the acquisition of the Norwegian browser company Opera in 2016 and subsequently taking it public on NASDAQ. Zhou also invested in the dating app Grindr, although he was later required to sell it due to regulatory concerns. In March 2020, Grindr was sold for $608 million.
