Early Life
Yitzhak Tshuva was born in Tripoli, Libya, in 1948. His family immigrated to Israel when he was six months old, settling in Netanya. Tshuva began working at age 12 to support his family. He served in the Israel Defense Forces in the Engineering Corps before beginning his career in the construction and engineering department of the Israeli Defense Ministry.
Rise to Success
In the 1970s, Tshuva entered the real estate industry, developing low-income neighborhoods in Netanya. He later initiated large residency and commercial projects across Israel. In 1992, he founded El Ad Holdings (also known as El Ad Group), which managed real estate transactions in North America. A major breakthrough came in 1998 when he gained control of Delek Israel Fuel Corporation, transforming it into a major energy company.
Key Business Strategies
Tshuva's strategic moves included acquiring the Plaza Hotel in New York City in 2004, which he later sold for a profit. Under his leadership, Delek Group discovered offshore natural gas reserves in Israel and Cyprus, significantly impacting the country's energy sector. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tshuva navigated economic challenges by selling assets to reduce debt. In 2025, Delek Group, under Tshuva, received approval to control Isracard.
Philanthropy
Yitzhak Tshuva is known for his philanthropic activities. He financed the construction of the Sha'arei Teshuva synagogue in Tel Aviv and has supported numerous educational and cultural institutions.
