Early Life
Trevor Burgess was born in Sacramento, California. His family moved to Hanover, New Hampshire, when he was young, where his father became a professor at Dartmouth College. He has been openly gay since his teenage years. Burgess graduated from Dartmouth College in 1994. He then worked as a management consultant at Monitor Company.
Rise to Success
Burgess spent a decade at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker in New York, Los Angeles, and London, executing numerous transactions. He later became the CEO of C1 Financial, making him the first openly gay CEO of a publicly traded bank in 2014. C1 Bank went public on the New York Stock Exchange. He was named the American Banker Community Banker of the Year in 2014 and was recognized as the Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year in 2013.
Key Business Strategies
Burgess is currently the President and CEO of Neptune Flood Insurance. In 2018, he purchased a controlling stake in Neptune Flood Insurance. His focus has been on leveraging technology and innovation in the insurance sector. Neptune filed a patent for its AI engine in 2019. Neptune Insurance went public on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2025.
Philanthropy
Burgess and his husband are involved with multiple charities, including donating $1 million to the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. They have supported the Dali Museum, Equality Florida, Metro Wellness, and Tampa Bay Watch, among several others.
