Early Life
Chin Jong Hwa was born in Yilan, Taiwan. His father, a lumberjack, died when Chin was around 10 years old. Chin's mother was illiterate. He worked multiple jobs to make ends meet and to continue his education, including as a janitor and driving a taxi.
Rise to Success
Chin's success began in 1992 when he took a major risk by leaving Taiwan for Mainland China to start an auto parts factory. This venture proved highly successful. A pivotal moment in Chin's career came when his company rescued BMW after one of their German auto parts suppliers went bankrupt. Chin's company rapidly produced over 600 auto parts within two months, which led to large orders from brands like Benz, Audi, and Rolls-Royce. Minth Group was the first auto-parts maker to receive a permit from China to make electric cars.
Key Business Strategies
Minth Group expanded globally and now has 70 factories. Chin stepped down from his position as chairman in 2019. The success of Minth Group is attributed to the rescue of BMW, which paved the way for big orders from other major automakers. The company has grown to employ around 20,000 people worldwide.
Philanthropy
Chin has contributed to philanthropic causes. CNBLUE, a South Korean band, of which his wife is involved, undertakes philanthropy work such as donating money and rice to the needy. A CNBLUE school was built in Burkina Faso, Africa in 2012. In 2014, a second CNBLUE school was built in the Philippines. The first CNBLUE school can accommodate up to 100 pre-schoolers and 1,000 elementary and junior high school students.
