Early Life
Torsten Toeller was born in Cologne, Germany, in 1966. After completing his schooling, he underwent training in retail. His interest in the pet supply industry was sparked during a trip to the United States, where he observed the business model of American pet superstores. This experience would later shape his entrepreneurial journey.
Rise to Success
In 1989, Toeller founded the first Fressnapf store in Erkelenz, Germany. Initially, the business struggled to gain traction, but Toeller adapted his strategy by increasing the product range and implementing aggressive discounting. This gamble paid off, and in 1992, he began franchising Fressnapf stores, leading to rapid growth. Today, the Fressnapf Group operates over 2,700 stores across 15 countries.
Key Business Strategies
A key strategy for Fressnapf's success has been its franchise model, which has allowed for rapid expansion. Toeller also focused on providing skilled advice to customers, with employees receiving continuous training. The company has also built its own exclusive brands and has expanded internationally. Toeller's vision for the company is "Happier Pets. Happier People."
Philanthropy
Torsten Toeller is involved in various social initiatives and actively supports animal welfare projects through Fressnapf's "tierisch engagiert" program. Fressnapf also focuses on building sustainability as a strong USP. The company has created an innovation lab in Düsseldorf to develop ideas and investigate start-ups.
