Early Life
Peter Guber was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on March 1, 1942, to a Jewish family. His father owned a junk business. Guber attended John Ward Elementary School and Newton North High School before pursuing pre-law at Syracuse University, where he met his wife, Tara Lynda Francine Gellis in 1964. He then earned his J.D. and LL.M. degrees at New York University.
Rise to Success
Guber's career began in 1968 at Columbia Pictures as a management trainee. He quickly ascended the ranks, becoming head of American production and later Vice President of Worldwide Production. In 1976, he co-founded Casablanca Record and Filmworks with Neil Bogart, achieving success with artists like Kiss and Donna Summer, as well as soundtracks like Flashdance and Midnight Express. Guber later launched Filmworks and achieved success with the film "The Deep" in 1977. He also founded Polygram Entertainment in 1979. In 1995, Guber formed Mandalay Entertainment as a joint venture with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
