Patrick Collison was born in Limerick, Ireland, on September 9, 1988. He grew up in Dromineer, County Tipperary, Ireland. He took his first computer course at eight and began programming at ten. He attended Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan, Nenagh, and Castletroy College. He briefly attended MIT but dropped out to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. Collison demonstrated exceptional aptitude from an early age, winning the Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in 2005 at the age of 16.
Rise to Success
Collison's career took off with the founding of Auctomatic with his brother John. In 2010, the Collison brothers founded Stripe, an online payment processing platform. Stripe quickly gained traction by providing a developer-friendly platform that simplified online payments for businesses. It has since grown to handle over $1.4 trillion in annual payment volume and is valued at $91.5 billion as of February 2025. Stripe operates in over 195 countries and supports 135 currencies.
