Nicolas Berggruen was born in Paris, France, on August 10, 1961. He is a dual citizen of Germany and the United States. His father, Heinz Berggruen, was a renowned art collector, and his mother, Bettina Moissi, was an actress. Berggruen attended the École alsacienne in Paris and Le Rosey in Switzerland.
