Laurent Dassault was born on July 7, 1953, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. He is the son of Serge Dassault, a prominent businessman and politician, and Nicole Dassault. His grandfather, Marcel Dassault, founded the Dassault Group. Laurent received a prestigious education, attending the École Supérieure Libre des Sciences Commerciales Appliquées (ESLSCA) and earning a business law degree from Paris II-Assas University.

Laurent began his career in the family business in 1977. He joined Dassault Investissements in 1991, managing military aeronautical contracts.
