Katharina Otto-Bernstein was born in Hamburg, Germany, in 1964. She attended St. Clare's Hall in Oxford, England, before moving to the United States. She earned a bachelor's degree from Columbia College and a Master of Fine Arts in Film from Columbia University Film School.
Rise to Success
Otto-Bernstein's career began with work in journalism, writing a lifestyle column for German Vogue. In 1993, she founded Film Manufacturers Inc., an international production company that has produced numerous films and documentaries. Her early success included directing the documentary "Coming Home" (1990) and the comedy "The Second Greatest Story Ever Told" (1992). Her breakthrough came with her documentaries, including "Beautopia" (1998) and "Absolute Wilson" (2006).
