Early Life
Jeffrey Craig Sprecher was born on February 23, 1955, in Madison, Wisconsin. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1978 and later pursued an MBA from Pepperdine University, which he completed in 1984. His early interest in how things worked led him to dismantle and rebuild gadgets, a trait that evolved into his career focus on global asset exchanges.
Rise to Success
Sprecher's career began at Trane and then at Western Power Group. In 1996, he acquired Continental Power Exchange (CPEX). In 2000, Sprecher founded Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in Atlanta as an online marketplace for energy trading. ICE went public in 2005. A pivotal moment was the acquisition of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 2013, solidifying ICE's position in the financial sector. His success is also marked by the creation of Bakkt, a digital asset marketplace.

Sprecher's strategies included identifying and exploiting inefficiencies in the market. He focused on creating a transparent, electronic trading environment, acquiring key exchanges, and expanding into areas such as fixed-income markets and mortgage technology. Philanthropy
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sprecher and his wife donated $1 million to the Phoebe Foundation's COVID-19 Relief Fund. In 2025, Sprecher and his wife each donated $2.5 million to MAGA Inc., a super PAC that supports Donald Trump.
